I'm an avid fan of many kinds of music. But it seems lately my faves are getting up there in age, and, as it goes hand-in-hand, appearance.
Yikes- this means I am too!
Saw Eric Clapton not long ago, and while the genius still reigns supreme- he looks old. I mean, someone came up to me when I was wearing a t-shirt from the show and asked me why I would even wear it with that face on it? How he looks is NOT how he plays and sings.

I've actually witnessed Paul McCartney getting younger with every song he sings....baby, I'm Amazed!
I heard Gord Lightfoot was coming to town soon and got all excited. I mean he's right up there in Canadian pride along with Anne Murray, Canada's songbird, Celine Dion, "le petit oiseau", and Joni Mitchell. But everyone bears the marks of life upon them. Myself included.
And let's not forget Neil Young, one of the most famous Canadian artists!

So here's the thing:
Do I want to hear my favorite music, or do I want to lament about days and looks gone by?
What is the true measure of an artist- fame or appearance?
Stevie Nicks sings it so well in Landslide....

Just to clarify, this whole thing started when I saw the promo pic of Gord. I know he has come back from a lot of illness, and it is a miracle he is still here. But it did freak me out for a minute.
So I love my Canadian music roots equally as much as all other music tastes I have developed over the years. I've shot a lot of musicians, and I'm going to work on shooting Gord too. Just listen to this and you'll know too...
Music lives on, like all great art.
Lucky for me there is a lesson in all of this: life is full of beauty and those things that feed the soul. And if I want to experience it right to my soul, then it is best to listen and embrace with my heart, and keep my eyes on this prize: delight and peace in my heart.
Whatever chance I get to hear my favorite musicians is a gift. Because, if offered the opportunity, I'd give anything to see loved ones from my life who are gone. And while hearing them would be awesome, seeing them, well, there's no comparison.
So I choose the peace and lightness this brings.....how about you?
